Week 75: Mi Semana

Hola todos!

I hope that you all had a fantastic week! This week was full of running around and trying to finish up the month with success. This week we also did a lot of work visits to help out some missionaries. It was cool because on one of the work visits I was with Elder Jesus, my 3rd companion, and it was awesome! He has turned out to be one of my good, good friends here on the mission and we were able to remember some good times we had while we were in La Habana. It has been really useful to have him in the zone because he was also a zone leader so he knows what he is doing. Things are finally getting a move on in my area as well, slowly but surely. Our zone finished with only 9 baptisms and 15  rescued people, but we have a lot of potential going into el mes de marzo.

Right now in the Book of Mormon I am in 3 Nefi 9, I absolutely love this part of the Book of Mormon, it touches me every time that I read it. I always feel the Spirit and try to put myself in that event. How glorious it would be to be one of the Nephites that saw Christ, I cant wait for the day that I'll be able to see Him.

Anyways, ya no me queda mas tiempo, pero escribiré mas el proximo lunes. Sorry for the spanish... (For those of us that don't speak spanish he said ...I have no more time, but I will write more next Monday.)

Have a great week!

Week 74: Fotos! Por fin! (At Last)

Dear Family and Friends,

So just to let you know, all is well here in Comas. As a zone leaders we have to send information about the zone and all 9 companionships every Monday to president and the assistants so sometimes that takes some time. Also, I'm getting used to being a zone leader. It is filled with phone calls, late nights and a lot of running around. I loved being a district leader and I became very good at it. I just got to get the hand down with being a zone leader now. I was also very frustrated when I got here  we had literally no investigators and no one to rescue and the attendance of the converts was super, super, super low. But this week we found some awesome families that were working with now, so now I'm not so frustrated. But that first week was tough. There are 18 missionaries in our zone and 4 district leaders that we have to follow up with every night about their districts.

It is a lot of work but I'm enjoying it, by the end of this week I should have a couple of more things down. That is the good thing about the mission, it really stretches you as a person and puts you in places where you need to progress and learn something new.

Anyways, I think that is about all. Have a great week and enjoy all the pictures!

This is la familia Pacheco. They always signed up to give us lunch and we got to know them very well. We also worked with their dad, Richard, a little bit to get him reactivated.

This is when I said bye to Juana O and her family, it was super sad to say bye to them because they are such a great and humble family. They don't have anything but the gospel and thanks to that, they are happy now. The gospel really does bless families.

This is Gaspar with Lady and Rubens family....

This is the picture of the baptisms of Gaspar, Lady, and Ruben that Elder Sandoval sent me.
Elder Sandoval, Juan Javier, and I. Juan Javier is one of my converts from Los Manzanos.

Gabriel when I said bye to him. That is his grandpa. Nobody is really sure how old he is because he doesn't have a birth certificate. His grandchildren and great great grandchildren say he is somewhere between 96 and 104 years.

This is the familia Castillo Chavez. Elder Sandoval and I reactivated them and they are awesome, they loved giving us dinner:)

Week 73:Mucho Trabajo

Good morning everyone!

This past week was a very different and exhausting week, but it was also a good one. My new area is called El Retablo. I am pretty sure it is one of the richest parts of the mission so were going to have to work a lot more with the members, but were both excited to work. The sister training leader (Hmna. Eliason and Evans) are also in our ward.

I have also been really happy lately with the work that Elder Sandoval and I did the last 2 changes. I was able to talk to him a little bit and he told me that just about everyone of our investigators our going to be baptized this month. So he is going to finish off the month with about 6 or 7 baptisms. I am very grateful for the Spirit as well, These last 2 changes I also realized how important it is in missionary work to have the Spirit with you. Learning how to better recognize the Spirit has definitely changed my mission and life.

Well, I'm sorry that this email is so short, I don't have to much time today. I would also love send you all some pictures, but I forgot me camera today. That just means that there will be more pictures for next week!

Que tengan una buena semana!

Week 72: Double Dunk

Dear Familia,

This week was definitely very, very good. Daniel S and Andree A, the son of Miguel A (a guy that we reactivated), were baptized, it was a great day. But it was also stressful because the water here is always really cold and so when Andree was baptized, he ran straight out of the water, but he didn't go all the way under so we had to redo it. Well, to make a long story short, we spent the next 45 to 60 minutes trying to get him in the water again. That was stressful jaja. But, they were baptized and confirmed members of the La Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días. This week we also were able to visit Lady and Ruben several times and they are awesome! They are going to be baptized this week. But, I'm not going to be here...

This week I have a change to Comas to be a zone leader with Elder Yohari from Bolivia. I am sad to leave all these great people behind because this area has turned into a baptism mine, but I am also excited to be a zone leader and learn. Comas has been a very successful zone in the past, but has kind of died down these past few months. I'm hoping that well be able to pick it up a little bit.

Well, I think that is all for this week!

Week 71: Faith is Work

This is a little bit from my letter because Elder Potter didn't have time to write another to everyone.

Dear Familia,

This past week we couldn't find Lady and Ruben our investigators. At all. Nada. It was very frustrating because they didn't come to church and they had baptismal dates for this week, but we just gotta make sure that they come this week. They are great. Although they didn't come, Rubens brother, Gaspar, came for the second time. We also couldn't find him this week. Him and Ruben work in Jesus María which is about 2 hours from Independencia and so they get home at about 9:30 to 10:00 which makes it very hard to teach them. But, with faith, all things are possible. That is probably one of the most valuable lessons I've learned on my mission. Faith isn't just hope, it is active hope. It is doing something to reach a goal, not just sitting down, pouting and hoping everything turns out well. I have faith that they will be baptized in 2 weeks.

Oh yeah, this week we are going to have 2 baptisms! I am super excited for that. Daniel S and Andree A (he is a little kid of 9 years, we have been reactivating his dad, Miguel, he is going to baptize him). I'll write you more about them next week.

Well, thats about all I got for this week. I hope you have a great week! Love ya tons!

Love,

Elder Potter
